Or perhaps you have a somewhat outdated device in your practice that still works perfectly, but finding a compatible patient cable is a real challenge?

We often give all the credit to the device, but the truth is that without the patient cable, the entire system would be completely silent. Whether in emergencies or during routine monitoring, this Class I medical device is the true communication bridge between technology and the patient.

The Anatomy of an ECG Cable: Three Main Components

Although at first glance it may look like just a "wire," a professional ECG cable is strictly divided into three parts:

The Device-Side Connector (The "Safety Key")

The device-side connector ensures a secure connection between the equipment and the patient cable. Its shape and wiring vary depending on the device the patient cable is designed for. In general, the connectors are connected to the central splitter by a large-diameter multi-conductor cable.

The Yoke (The "Control Center")

Its function is to connect the leads that run to the patient. It usually contains an electrical circuit board that ensures continuity between the multi-conductor cable and the individual leads.

The Leads (The Precision "Tentacles")

Extending from the central splitter, the leads connect to the actual transducer of the electrical signal: the electrode used for electrocardiography.

Often referred to (although incorrectly) as "leads," these are the final wires—usually 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10—that connect to the electrodes placed on the patient's body. They are mainly divided into three types of connections:

Banana plugs (4 mm)

Snap connectors

clips or clamps

The leads can also be replaceable, as they may be equipped with a female connector for connection to the central splitter (when the splitter is equipped with male connectors).

Unfortunately, since patient cables are not standardized—and given the large number of manufacturers and the many different device models—there is a vast variety of patient cables available, each with different specifications and compatibility requirements.

Finding the Perfect Cable Doesn't Have to Be Impossible

of patient cablesdesigned to meet virtually any requirement and compatibility need

Are you unsure which cable is right for your device? We are completely at your disposal to help you find the best solution.

Contact us directly at: antonio@lumed.com

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Hai un elettrocardiografo, un monitor o un registratore Holter ECG?
